man will do jail time for assault

April 18, 2006| Richard Evans, 25,
a resident of Hyrum, was sentenced Monday by 1st District
Court Judge Gordon Low for aggravated assault. The
sentence includes 50 days in county jail and a $12,000
fine. Evans will incur the costs for the time spent
in the jail and he will also pay a surcharge on the
$12,000.
Evans and three others were involved in an altercation
that concluded in one man's fractured jaw. The incident
occurred after a sports game were all four people had
been drinking. Two people had broken out in a fight
and Evans had apparently tried to break up the altercation
and resulted in only making things worse.
Evans acknowledged his fault and apologized to the
courts. His sentence will commence no later than May
1.
