Bomb
squad disposes of old blasting caps
By Molly Farmer
April 24, 2006 | Explosive materials
found in a Garden City home were destroyed by the Cache
Valley Bomb Squad Tuesday.
Rich County Deputy Dave Schirado said a citizen assist
call was made Monday by a resident who had blasting
caps in their basement and wanted them removed.
Blasting caps are explosive devices used to detonate
things like dynamite, said Lt. Matt Bilodeau of the
Cache County Sheriff's Office.
Schirado notified the Cache Valley Bomb Squad, which
responded to the site Tuesday. The three bomb squad
members took the blasting caps to a vacant field, wrapped
them in other explosives and destroyed them, Schirado
said. The process took about 30 minutes.
