"I've always been all over the lot in my writing. Except for poetry -- even though they say all the old-time sportswriters use plenty of it. Maybe it's just part of what we do."

'Active senior' housing expansion, day care approved in Nibley

By Alison Baugh

April 12, 2007 | NIBLEY -- Not only will more "active senior" housing be coming to Nibley, but also three new businesses as approved Wednesday night by the Planning and Zoning Commission.

With phase one of Sunset Parks senior housing well underway and receiving a positive response, contractors Niel Anderson and Randy Ghemn approached the commission for input on their second phase. Sunset Parks is at 1000 W. 2770 South and the second phase will border it.

Current subdivision requirements state that subdivisions must be a mile and a quarter apart, but the commission decided to reconsider this as the two subdivisions will be essentially one. They approved waiving this requirement and now the issue is whether to vacate a road between the two subdivisions or to leave it. This is now up to the contractors to decide as members could see both ways.

"This will be one of the nicest communities in the town," said Wayne Anderson, commission member after having seen what phase one looks like.

For those at the other end of the age scale, a home day care will be coming to Nibley. A conditional use permit was approved for Melissa Nicholes and her business Cuddles and Tickles. Nicholes is state licensed and currently running her business in Providence, but planning to move to Nibley later this year. Conditions with this permit were that if she wants to have her college student employee, it will have to be approved by the city council as ordinances state that employees must be relatives and live in the home.

A new town home subdivision will soon be in Nibley and the commission approved a conditional use permit and business license for Spring Creek Crossing. A business trailer will be at 2350 S. 1280 West until a model home is built and can be used for the business office.

Also approved was a conditional use permit and business license for Ruth and Kelly Anderson who run Northern Utah Children’s Choir in Logan. They are also moving from Providence and wanted to make sure their license was up to date said Kelly Anderson.

A final plat review of Foxborough Estates was tabled until the next meeting on April 25 due to the applicants not showing up for the meeting.
