"I've always been all over the lot in my writing. Except for poetry -- even though they say all the old-time sportswriters use plenty of it. Maybe it's just part of what we do."

A-Week activities range from comedy and 5K race to True Aggie Night

April 17, 2007 | Two showings in the TSC Ballroom of the recently released movie Deja Vu kicked off this year's "A-Week" celebrations.

A-Week has been a Utah State tradtition for years. Hosted by the Utah State Student Alumni Association, it started out as A-Day. This day was set aside each spring for all students and faculty members to give the campus a "thorough grooming." During A-Day, students would participate in activities such as projects, free lunch, assemblies, a football game on the QUAD and a student dance.

Now, A-Day has turned into A-Week. It consists of activities and service projects. Some of the most popular include True Aggie Night, Day on the Quad, a 5K race, and Senior Celebration. There are fun activities planned for each day this week.

Tuesday will be a comedy night hosted by the improvisational comedy group Laughing Stock. There will be free chips and salsa, and for the first 100 people who attend, there will be free Carl's Jr. It starts at 7 p.m. and will cost $2.

Wednesday is the annual Senior Celebration. A party will be from 7 until 9 p.m. in the Sunburst Lounge and prizes will be given to graduating seniors. For graduates, the event is free. For everyone else, the cost is $5.

Thursday, a "Lunch for the Bunch" will be on the TSC patio. For $1, students can get submarine sandwiches, Popcicles and drinks. That night, there will be a battle of the bands. It will be in the TSC Ballroom and free drinks will be provided. For the first 200 people there will be free Carl's Junior.

Friday is the Day on the Quad. From 10 a.m. until 3 p.m. the Quad will be filled with booths from all the clubs and organizations on campus. There will also be live bands, food and blow-up toys. That night is True Aggie Night. There will be a live DJ and, of course, plenty of kissing.

Finally on Saturday night there will be the Spring Formal, The Blue Carpet Ball. Live DJ's and bands will perform beginning at 8:30 p.m. The cost is $12 per couple.

"We've put a lot of work into A-Week this year, and we know it's going to be a lot of fun," says Alyson Shepherd, Student Alumni Assocation member. "Everyone should come to the activities."
