re-examining costs of sewage removal
By Shannon K. Johnson
April 17, 2007 | NIBLEY -- The price of sewage removal
is again changing for the citizens of Nibley.
Originally in 2003 the city had planned to raise the
cost of sewage removal to $44 but found that through
some careful budgeting it might be able to charge $5
less, lowering it to $39. But the city of Nibley again
managed to save people even more.
Larry Anhder, the city manager, said, "We were
going over the budget and realized that we could save
the citizens of Nibley even more money."
Thus the price was set at $30, but now three years
later the city finds itself in need of more revenue
for sewage removal so it raised the price another $5.
That brought the total to $35, but those who hoped the
price would remain stable are betting on a long shot.
Instead the city still remains unsure as to how it
will react to changes in environmental law for dumping.
By using the Logan treatment plant the city of Nibley
would have to pay to renovate the facility. Though,
Providence is planning on building a smaller newer plant
that will already meet the new environmental standards.
Nibley may choose to invest with Providence and construct
its own sewage plant.
"We aren't sure when Logan will require us to
make that decision, but we have anywhere from a year
to four years to decide," said Anhder.
Whether Nibley invests in a new power plant or renovates
the old, the increase in the price will not be the last.
