"I've always been all over the lot in my writing. Except for poetry -- even though they say all the old-time sportswriters use plenty of it. Maybe it's just part of what we do."

Complaints lead to owner being ordered to give up some of her dogs

By Stevie Stewart

April 20, 2007 | LOGAN -- Reports of animal neglect made to the Logan City Police Department a week apart by different people, leading to a pet owner being ordered to give up some of her pets.

On April 11, a report of animal neglect led to an investigation of a dog owner on East 100 North Street. The complainant claimed that the pet owner had "numerous dogs living in piles of feces." The report also claimed that the dogs were not watered regularly.

According to Sgt. Louise Speth of the LCPD, Officer Jacob Boehme of Logan City Animal Control responded to the call. Speth said the only action taken was that Boehme gave the dog owner two weeks to comply with the city’s "four dogs or less" rule. It was not recorded how many dogs were kept at the residence at the time of Boehme's visit. Speth said Boehme reported no signs of pet neglect.

"The pet owner said she didn't know about the limit on the number of dogs she could have," Speth said. "She has until the 25th to get rid of some of her dogs."

On Thursday, a second call from a different person was made regarding the same issue at the residence. This time Officer Karen Bontems responded. Speth said Bontems reported that the number of dogs is still in violation of city regulations.

"Again, no neglect violations were cited at the second visit to the home," Speth said.
