"I've always been all over the lot in my writing. Except for poetry -- even though they say all the old-time sportswriters use plenty of it. Maybe it's just part of what we do."

North Logan OKs division of shopping center, although not without grumbling

By Emily Redfield

April 20, 2007 | NORTH LOGAN -- The North Logan City Council unanimously voted to allow the North Logan Marketplace Shopping Center to divide its plat into four lots.

This shopping center is at approximately 2100 North Main Street. Mike Wright, who presented this issue to the council, said dividing the parcel allows multiple people to buy property in this shopping center. If all the buildings stayed on the same parcel, they would not be able to sell it to multiple owners.

The division of this property was strategically done in order to put equal parking on each lot, Wright said.

This parcel was developed before it was presented to the council, and some of the members of the council were not happy about that.

"I would like to know about this upfront, and not when it comes through the back door," said Trent Wentz, City Council member.

"I don't see this as a backdoor issue," Wright said.

He said that the center's owners received all the necessary documents and made all the necessary reports in order for the buildings to be built to code. He also said that all of the structures pass all fire codes, and have met all city design standards.

"My pet peeve of downtown Logan is that someone will park and take up three spots," said Steve Soulier, council member.

Wright assured him that this would not be a problem, and also said that snow removal would also be taken care of by the city. He explained this plat division as a condominium plat that has to be divided. He also said that there was no public opinion expressed at the planning and zoning meeting that he attended.
