April 24, 2007 | LOGAN -- Diego Cardona, a 19-year-old
Logan resident, pleaded guilty Monday to three charges
pending against him and was sentenced to no less than
two days in jail by 1st District Court Judge Gordon
Low.
Cardona was charged with possession of 1 ounce of
marijuana, use or possession of drug paraphernalia,
and a stop sign violation.
A search warrant was issued and Cardona's apartment
searched in March, according to the prosecuting attorney,
Tony Baird. Cardona came home mid-search and told police
what drug paraphernalia was his and was "very cooperative
with the police and investigators," said Cardona's
attorney, David Perry.
The search of Cardona's apartment led police to issue
Cardona a citation accusing him of both possession of
marijuana and drug paraphernalia. Tests came back positive
for marijuana residue.
The citation for the stop sign violation came when
Cardona failed to yield the right of way at four-way
stop, causing an accident.
Cardona was ordered to pay a fine of $555 and spend
no less than two days in jail. Low gave Cardona a choice
of when he would serve his time. Cardona said he would
serve his sentence next weekend in the Cache County
Jail.
