Library still continues to entertain as it goes into
its 93rd year.
“It was built in 1914 and is,
for the most part, the same today as it was back then,”
said Library Director Juliene Parish.
The most noticeable difference is
the vast assortment of books the library has acquired
over the years.
“If we don’t have it then we
find a way to order it for you,” said Parish, “It’s
very rare that we can’t get the book you want. I really
try to stay on top of what’s new and what everyone is
talking about. I think we do a pretty good job of it,”
Parish continued.
Parish says they stay on top of new
arrivals by having employees of Walden Books send her
prints of what’s popular. She also receives copies of
new books from publishing companies for adults and children.
Logan Library also has summer and
winter programs for children. This summer, Lorie Koch
will be having a program for teens called “Super Summer
Sleuthing” in which she will introduce a book and together
they will read it and have activities centered around
it. There is also one for preschool age children called,
“Get a Clue at Your Library” in which Julie Hatch will
be having readings, games, crafts, and even a treasure
hunt. Even though the building hasn’t changed, Parish
says the operations within the library have changed
significantly.
“When I worked here 20 years
ago we just had cards in a box and that’s how you found
books. Now we don’t even have cards, everything is done
by the computer which makes it so much more organized.”
Parish just began working at the library again five
years ago after taking 20 years off to work for the
Richmond School District. She loves Richmond Library
and working to help kids appreciate readings.
The summer reading programs will
be held June 7, 14, 21, and 28 as well as July 5 and
12. They begin at 1:00 p.m. and go about and hour.
