"I've always been all over the lot in my writing. Except for poetry -- even though they say all the old-time sportswriters use plenty of it. Maybe it's just part of what we do."

Daughters of the Utah Pioneers Museum preserving Wellsville history

By Riki Richards

April 27, 2007 | WELLSVILLE -- Wellsville's rich history is well preserved for anyone to look at in the Wellsville Daughters of the Utah Pioneers Museum.

The museum, in the basement of the Wellsville Tabernacle, is a collection of artifacts and memories of a town steeped in history.

Most of the items in the museum have been donated by residents, but some of the items have come from things that are no longer in the town such as a window and cornerstone from "the old purple church," said Edna Baugh, member of the Daughters of the Utah Pioneers. The old purple church was torn down about three years ago. It was a Wellsville landmark for many years.

Baugh said the museum is becoming too small for the number of artifacts it contains. Baugh added the museum was able to obtain some glass display cases when the Cache Valley Mall was refurbished, and it has helped to preserve many of the smaller artifacts such as scrapbooks and music books.

Tours are arranged by appointment only. Anyone interested can find the contact information in the phone book.
