"I've always been all over the lot in my writing. Except for poetry -- even though they say all the old-time sportswriters use plenty of it. Maybe it's just part of what we do."

Richmond to keep an eye on its cemetery after dark

By Jena Stout

April 30, 3007 | RICHMOND -- Some concerns were mentioned during Tuesday night’s City Council meeting that strange activity was happening in the cemetery late at night.

A worried citizen commented that he has driven by the cemetery on occasion when the gate is open and a car is parked in the lot.

"The cemetery gate it usually supposed to be locked around 9 p.m. so I have no idea why it would be left open," said City Manager Marlowe Atkins.

Mayor Michael Hall said someone would have to be assigned to making sure the gates are locked at night because there have been other reports of "strange" activity going on in the cemetery after hours.

"I have heard some mention of cars being in the parking lot all night, and people being seen walking out so we will have to keep a closer eye on that," said Hall.

Atkins agreed to make sure the gates were locked on his way home from work at night.
