NPR's Mandalit del Barco to give "Diversity, Media,
and Politics" lecture

Mandalit del Barco will give a Media & Society Lecture,
"Diversity, Media, and Politics," from noon
to 1 p.m. Feb. 14 in the Performance Hall on the Utah
State University campus.
Del Barco, a general assignment reporter based at
NPR West, has covered topics ranging from immigration
to race relations to urban street gangs. A native of
Peru, she grew up in Kansas and California. She began
her journalism career as a newspaper reporter and completed
a master's thesis at Columbia University titled "Breakdancers:
Who are they, and why are they spinning on their heads?"
The lecture is sponsored by the department of journalism
and communication, the Associated Students of Utah State
University, the department of political science and
Utah Public Radio. The event is free and open to the
public.
NPR's Corey Flintoff will give a Media & Society Lecture
on April 16 with the same sponsors.
ASUSU, the journalism and communication department,
and Utah Public Radio are collaborating to start a student-run
radio station on campus this spring.
