Grammatically Speaking:

"We owe much to our mother tongue. It is through speech and writing that we understand each other and can attend to our needs and differences. If we don't respect and honor the rules of English, we lose our ability to communicate clearly and well. In short, we invite mayhem, misery, madness, and inevitably even more bad things that start with letters other than M."

Police investigation of woman's death continues

By Lisa Christensen

February 5, 2008 | LOGAN -- The death of an elderly woman last week is still under investigation, said Logan City Police Department Capt. Eric Collins.

The woman, 87-year-old May Twedt, wandered away from the Beehive Assisted LIving Center between 1 and 3 p.m. Friday and was found dead due to exposure at 5:45 by Logan City Police, who said Twedt suffered from a form of dementia.

Twedt was last seen by Beehive Center staff at 1 p.m. and was reported missing at 3, Collins said. A witness said she saw Twedt walk past her apartment at 1:30, he said. Beehive Center staff searched the immediate area and called the police department for assistance at 3:41.

Police and the Logan City Fire Department responded and searched the surrounding area with a grid system, with officers and firefighters slowly searching the blocks around the facility. Collins found Twedt about 150 yards east of the facility.

"She had fallen down and was slightly covered in snow, so she was hard to recognize," he said.

The door to Twedt's room was not locked and the alarm on the door was not turned on, said Collins.

"It's not an every-day kind of thing," he said, but noted that it wasn't the first time a resident has wandered away from the facility.

Collins said a detective is still investigating the case with the state licensing division. The owner of the Beehive Center was not available for comment.
