Richmond
polls see twice the usual turnout for Super Tuesday

February 7, 2008 | RICHMOND -- Voters flocked to Richmond
on Tuesday to cast their votes for the 2008 Presidential
election primaries taking place on what is referred
to as "Super Tuesday."
As of 7 p.m. approximately 500 voters had cast votes
for their preferred presidential candidates, a number
that is about 30 percent of all registered voters within
the three precincts. Running the elections at the Richmond
Community Building was Larry Liebes, who said the 30
percent turnout is twice the normal amount of voters
that cast their ballots for primary elections.
Because of the new electronic voting machines the
two precincts in Richmond were combined with the precinct
from Cove to bring all voters to the Richmond Community
Building to cast their ballots.
"In Cache County we're all well-trained," said Liebes
when asked if there had been any problems in handling
all the voters throughout the long day. "Things go smoothly."
Liebes and the other workers on hand to help run the
elections predicted a total turnout of between 700 and
750 voters by the time polls closed at 8 p.m. A number
that would be over 40 percent of the approximately 1,700
registered voters in the three precincts, nearly three
times the average turnout of primaries.
