Grammatically Speaking:

"We owe much to our mother tongue. It is through speech and writing that we understand each other and can attend to our needs and differences. If we don't respect and honor the rules of English, we lose our ability to communicate clearly and well. In short, we invite mayhem, misery, madness, and inevitably even more bad things that start with letters other than M."

River Heights seeks bids for new bathrooms at park

By Paul Kelley

February 14, 2008 | RIVER HEIGHTS -- The popular Ryan's Place Park in River Heights may be getting new bathrooms this spring. The bathrooms are old and often overcrowded in the summer. "I have seen people waiting in line for the bathrooms," said Kent Parker.

Blueprints have been drawn up for a proposed building that will replace the old bathrooms. The project will be paid for with a RAPZ Grant. Taxes from local restaurants can be awarded by the county to local cities in the form of the grant. Applications for the grant will be turned in after a bid for the plans has been submitted.

Councilwoman Kathryn Hatfield reported that some city residents are not happy with snow being pushed into their driveways by the snowplows.

Mayer Bill Barker said there is no way to prevent it. The council said $30,000 was put aside for snow removal this winter.

Baker said, "$10,000 has been used so far… as far as state budgeting is going, we are in good shape."

It was proposed that the council accept the adoption of the 2008 meeting schedule. All members consented to the schedule. City council meetings will be held on the second and fourth Tuesday of each month.

More information was presented to the council on the possible cell tower that could be placed in River Heights. AT&T and the city are discussing the possibility of the tower being placed by the shed behind the city buildings. AT&T would pay the city $12,000 a year for the tower.

The cell tower is still in the early stages of negotiations. The mayor said a city meeting would be held before any definite plans are made.
