Grammatically Speaking:

"We owe much to our mother tongue. It is through speech and writing that we understand each other and can attend to our needs and differences. If we don't respect and honor the rules of English, we lose our ability to communicate clearly and well. In short, we invite mayhem, misery, madness, and inevitably even more bad things that start with letters other than M."

Hyde Park haircutter's home salon fits family just fine

By C. Jake Williams

February 19, 2008 | HYDE PARK -- After cutting hair in North Logan for 15 years, Stephanie Willmore has opened an in-home hair salon in Hyde Park.

"I was busy enough so I just decided I'd go out on my own, do it from home," said Willmore.

Hyde Park city granted Willmore a special use permit for her new business last month and she is now open for business. Services offered include haircuts, perms and "lots of colors." Willmore said most of her clients are women.

Working from home is an ideal situation for Willmore, who is married with three children. The Cache Valley native works her schedule around those of her children, ages 12, 9 and 8, usually between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. while her kids are at school. She estimates her workload at 20-25 hours per week,

"And I don't ever work Saturdays," said Willmore. "That is my family day."

Her new salon is located on the bottom level near the back of Willmore's new home. Customers circle around the north side of the residence before descending into the homey space with dark-stained concrete floors that look impressively like black marble. The main hair chair is located near the outside wall, next to a vanity counter and mirror. Willmore's pride in her work is evident; the rest of the room is tastefully decorated with items you'd never look to buy in Wal-Mart.

"I just try to give people what they want," said Willmore. "Usually I have good luck. I've never had someone come back and yell at me."

Potential clients can contact the family-oriented Willmore at 435-563-3806, but should keep in mind that her children's schedules dictate her availability.

"I work more than they know I do," said Willmore. "I love what I do. I love it."
