February 21, 2008 | LEWISTON -- Council members approved
a $1.50 water rate increase at Tuesday's City Council
meeting.
The cost goes from $16 to $17.50 per 12,000 gallons.
"We can't really become more efficient," Jeff Hall,
councilman over the water and sewer, said. Hall, who
introduced the rate increase at last month's meeting,
said it covers the cost of upkeep of the water system.
A public hearing was held at the beginning of the
meeting in case any of the public had concerns, but
no residents attended to discuss the increase.
The rate increase becomes effective April 1.
Along with the rate increase the public hearing was
also open for comment about the city's new ordinances
restricting sexually oriented businesses and accessory
apartments, which were later approved by the council.
The council also met with Lisa Duskin-Goede, heritage
specialist for the Bear River Association of Governments
(BRAG). Duskin-Goede came to talk about a proposed scenic
byway that would go east through Lewiston on Utah Highway
61, as well as information about various grants the
city might be qualified for.
The mayor asked Councilman Darwin Pitcher to work
with Duskin-Goede on the scenic byway.
