Grammatically Speaking:

"We owe much to our mother tongue. It is through speech and writing that we understand each other and can attend to our needs and differences. If we don't respect and honor the rules of English, we lose our ability to communicate clearly and well. In short, we invite mayhem, misery, madness, and inevitably even more bad things that start with letters other than M."

Hyrum considers location of proposed door-assembly manufacturer

By Jake Ipson

February 25, 2008 | HYRUM -- Hyrum has a new councilman. At the City Council meeting on Thursday, Tom Labau was sworn in as the new councilman. After being sworn in, he immediately took his seat at the end of the table and participated in the town meeting. Although councilman Labau did not have that much to say, he did let his feelings be known on different issues.

Jeff McBride, the city museum director, let the council and the city know that progress on the new museum is moving along. They are optimistic and hope to have a soft opening of the museum by Memorial weekend.

In other news, Dallas Elder brought a proposal to the council about building a pre-hung door assembly. The location of the building would be at approximately 550 N. 600 East. The city seemed to be worried about the location of this proposed building. Many people in the audience agreed they did not want an industry park at the north gateway to the city.

Councilwoman Stephanie Miller said, "We welcome businesses, but I am not sure if this is the right place."

Councilman Paul James added, "The land has a great view." The land right now supposedly provides good agricultural land. The proposed plan has been tabled for now.

Carl Lundahl also proposed a plan for an Edward Jones Investment Office at 5 East Main Street. There is already an old building there that the company is looking to move into. The council seemed worried about the looks of the building and gave the company six months to make the outside at least facing Main Street look more appealing.

Baseball and softball sign-up for kids will begin in March. Sign-ups will be held at Hyrum City's Library Café. The city is looking forward to another great year. Times for sign ups are:

Saturday, March 1 from 9:00 a.m. to noon.
Wednesday, March 5th - 5:00 thru 8:00 p.m.
