Grammatically Speaking:

"We owe much to our mother tongue. It is through speech and writing that we understand each other and can attend to our needs and differences. If we don't respect and honor the rules of English, we lose our ability to communicate clearly and well. In short, we invite mayhem, misery, madness, and inevitably even more bad things that start with letters other than M."

Lip balm (but not for the lips) part of getting the right pageant look

By Natalie Archibald

February 26, 2008 | Gallons of hairspray, tons of makeup -- OK, we exaggerete a little -- plus 4-inch heels and one crown can only mean one thing in Logan: a pageant.

The pageant Saturday featured many young women competing for the crown and title of Miss Cache Valley 2008.

Many people wonder about the mystery behind a pageant and what makes the girls look perfect on stage. The contestants have a few beauty secrets to keep themselves looking good throughout the pageant:

* Vaseline on teeth makes it easier to smile for hours and hours.
* Lip balm on eye lids helps the eye shadow stay on longer.
* Hairspray sprayed on face after makeup is applied to keep it from smearing. Hairspray also keeps the swim suit from riding up.
* Fake eyelashes makes the eyes stand out and look fabulous.
* Nude colored shoes and nude colored nail polish on toe nails and finger nails gives the illusion of longer legs.
* Posing/walking when posing, a triangle shape gives a leaner look.
* Dehydration a couple of days before the pageant they drink less water to show more muscle definition.
* Hair extensions for long luxurious hair.
* Tanning for a fresh healthy glow.

Now we all know the beauty secrets of pageant queens. As the saying goes, "Beauty pinches."

There is a lot of hard work the contestants put into the pageant; they spend many hours practicing, exercising, and preparing their talents. The judging categories are as follows: Private Interview 35 percent, Talent 40 percent, Physical Fitness 10 percent, On-Stage Questions 5 percent, and the Evening Gown 10 percent.

All the hard work, sweat and stress has finally paid off. Congratulations to the new Miss Cache Valley 2008, Kathryn Hopkins, whoo will receive a $500 scholarship. The First Attendant is Kaisa Anderson, and she will receive a $250 scholarship. Second Attendant is Karlie Rhodes.
