Grammatically Speaking:

"We owe much to our mother tongue. It is through speech and writing that we understand each other and can attend to our needs and differences. If we don't respect and honor the rules of English, we lose our ability to communicate clearly and well. In short, we invite mayhem, misery, madness, and inevitably even more bad things that start with letters other than M."

February 29, 2008 | LOGAN--Utah State's formula for success was simple Thursday night in the Spectrum: If you never trail your opponent, you'll win.

Forward Gary Wilkinson scored 14 of his 19 points in the first period and guard Jaycee Carroll poured in 24 of his 30 points in the second half to pace the Aggies past Louisiana Tech 86-59. Utah State (20-9, 9-4 WAC) now has one lone home game remaining this season.

"That's unfortunate," said Carroll. "I'd love to play a hundred more games here."

The Aggies shot 67 percent from the field for the game, including 13-of-20 shooting by Carroll. Wilkinson and forward Tai Wesley each made seven shots on 11 and 9 attempts, respectively.

"Obviously you have Jaycee shoot that percentage and our two posts shoot that percentage it goes a long to win it," said coach Stew Morrill.

Carroll added a game-high three steals and Wilkinson blocked a game-high three shots.

The Aggies host Fresno State Monday for their final home game of the season. Joining Carroll for this last hurrah are fellow seniors Stephen DuCharme and point guard Kris Clark.

"Your last game has to be more of a celebration, not a death," said Clark. You gotta be excited that this is your last game here, not disappointed and not upset."

Monday's game against Fresno tips off at 7:05. Utah State then wraps up the season with road games against WAC-leaders Boise State March 6 and Idaho March 8. The Boise State game is Utah State's best chance to gain ground in the WAC as the Broncos lead the Aggies by 1.5 games.
