Aggies
one win from sharing regular-season WAC title
By C. Jake Williams
March 7, 2008 | Boise State (22-8, 12-4 WAC), the only
three-loss team in the WAC, played host to Utah State
Thursday night with sole ownership of the regular-season
WAC title on the line.
After defeating the Broncos 88-69, the Aggies (22-9,
11-4) are one win from securing a share of that title.
USU guard Jaycee Carroll and BSU forward Reggie Larry
cancelled each scored 23 points and gathered nine rebounds,
both game highs.
The Aggie bench made the difference in the game, outscoring
the Bronco subs 29-6. USU senior forward Stephen DuCharme
scored 20 points and nabbed seven rebounds in relief
of the oft foul-plagued Tai Wesley, who fouled out for
the seventh time this season.
A Kris Clark 3-pointer four minutes into the game gave
USU a 10-8 lead and BSU trailed the rest of the way.
Clark scored nine points and dished five dimes for USU,
which lead 44-30 at the half. Utah State also defeated
BSU Jan. 17 by the score 82-78 behind 29 points from
Carroll.
Guard Matt Bauscher led the Broncos with 24 points
in the first meeting, but failed to score Thursday night
on five field-goal and two free-throw attempts. Boise
State, its regular season now complete, must wait to
see which team(s) it will share the regular-season title
with. Utah State, New Mexico State and Nevada all sport
11-4 conference records.
Utah State finishes the regular season at Idaho Saturday
in its shot at a share of the crown. USU previously
beat the Vandals 79-64 on Jan. 19 in the Spectrum. Saturday's
game tips at 8:05 p.m.
