Today's word on journalism

More from the Do-Gooder File:

"For much of his career, he could outthink, out-hustle, out-report, outeat, outdrink and outwork any other journalist in the country. But if his excesses were occasionally unbridled, they were driven by his passion to get a good story and root out the bad guys. ... He could get excited about an investigation of public corruption or a bizarre animal story. We once spent weeks following a story about a dog on 'death row' that Bob believed was 'innocent.'"

Some Nibley residents think mayor's 'to do' list is just for show

By Ashley Zarate

March 13, 2008 | NIBLEY -- Mayor Gerald Knight continues to work toward completing the goals and visions he made for 2008. Knight has an ambitious list of seven goals he would like to complete this year and has already started working on most of them.

This list is as follows:
1) Complete Nibley City's Parks and Trails Plan by July 2008.
2) Complete and pass the update of the General Plan by 6 December 2007. This will include an update of the Land Use Plan (zoning map.)
3) Summarize Nibley City notification requirements and Land Use Authority by 3 January 2008.
4) Approve the new Conservation Subdivision Zone by February 2008.
5) Approve an updated Planned Unit Development Ordinance by February 2008.
6) Approve an updated Commercial Design Standards Ordinance by April 2008.
7) Create more opportunities for citizen involvement to develop a sense of community pride.

Some residents believe the list could include more important issues and was made simply to be checked off as quickly as possible.

John Olsen, a Nibley resident, said she feels the mayor's goals aren't what she had expected. "I was hoping the goals would include specific details about how the city council expects to create more of those opportunities for citizen involvement. I felt like that was just added for show."

Knight continues to prove that most of the list is underway and he knows he can accomplish all of his goals this year.

Knight said in a monthly newsletter, "I am excited for the positive change this will create in Nibley City. I again thank everyone that has contributed to this process."
