Today's word on journalism

More from the Do-Gooder File:

"For much of his career, he could outthink, out-hustle, out-report, outeat, outdrink and outwork any other journalist in the country. But if his excesses were occasionally unbridled, they were driven by his passion to get a good story and root out the bad guys. ... He could get excited about an investigation of public corruption or a bizarre animal story. We once spent weeks following a story about a dog on 'death row' that Bob believed was 'innocent.'"

'Beauty and the Beast' graces local stage

LOGAN -- The echoing applause of avid patrons flood the theater hall. Round upon round of raucous roaring fans thank the performers for their expert execution of the production. Disney's Beauty and the Beast has touched the hearts of young and old across the globe. The opportunity to experience the magic is soon to be that of Cache Valley.

Cache Regional Theatre Company (CRTC) has brought northern Utah quality theatrical and musical entertainment for 25 years.

"We create the opportunity for members of our community to come together and perform on this spectacular stage," said Floyd Salisbury, general director and president of CRTC. "The excellence of what we do is evident by the great support we receive from our patrons. Cache Valley is our home and we want to give this community another great event, this magical childhood story." CRTC hopes to wave an enchanted wand and cast a spell on the audience with a stand out cast of local talent.

The cast of Beauty and the Beast is made up of a mixture of ages and professions. From high school seniors to university professors, bakery managers to accountants and many others, the vast diversity of the participants is as breath taking as the production. Local superstar talent, Sarah Swenson, 20, will be gracing the Ellen Eccles stage for her debut as Belle.

"I have performed my whole life. This is my dream roll," said Swenson. The daughter of popular former wrestling coach and current Mt. Logan Middle School principal Dave Swenson, Ms Swenson has proven her skills on stages across the western United States. Most recently she was seen at the Pink Garter Theater in Jackson Hole, Wyom.

Swenson continued by saying, "The Eccles theater, combined with the familiar story of Beauty and the Beast, will definitely be one of Utah's best kept secrets."

Swenson will be joined by fellow Utah State University Ambassador, Lee Cannon, 21, who will play the role of the Beast. Recently returning from a concert tour of Eastern Europe, Cannon is eager to once again perform on the Eccles Stage.

"The Cache Regional Theatre Company has become a second family to me, the theater here in Logan, a second home. I am honored to come back to this organization and work with these fantastic people in this show," said Cannon.

The curtain will rise to reveal the brilliant costuming of Kody Rash, the story telling blocking of Nan Warton and the moving sets of Kenneth Bell.

President Salisbury wrapped up an interview with the following statement; "This show will be a family affair. Our family here at the theater invites the families of Cache Valley to join our family for the evening. We can put our worries aside and enjoy the magic!"
