Millville
council seeks replacement for Pierson
By Leah Lopshire
March 24, 2008 | MILLVILLE -- The City Council will
have a new job on its hands trying to replace Councilman
Ryan Pierson. Mayor Michael Johnson read the resignation
letter out loud, saying the cause for the resignation
is "due to scheduling conflicts."
To solve this situation the board must find a replacement.
The protocol for replacing Pierson is stated in the
Utah Code 99, also read by Mayor Johnson. The code states,
"A vacancy in a mayor or council office is filled by
appointment of the city council." The code goes on to
say that whomever fills the vacancy will stay there,
"until January following the next municipal election,"
therefore, whoever is assigned will have to fill the
spot for a year and nine months.
According to the code the council must post a notice
to the public for two weeks before making a final decision.
The mayor stated that "all those interested can apply
for the position."
Anyone who is interested may turn an informal resume
to Recorder Rose Mary Jones by April 12.
