Today's word on journalism

More from the Do-Gooder File:

"For much of his career, he could outthink, out-hustle, out-report, outeat, outdrink and outwork any other journalist in the country. But if his excesses were occasionally unbridled, they were driven by his passion to get a good story and root out the bad guys. ... He could get excited about an investigation of public corruption or a bizarre animal story. We once spent weeks following a story about a dog on 'death row' that Bob believed was 'innocent.'"

Preliminary hearing for Wellsville woman will be April 1

By M. Kathryn Hanberg

March 25, 2008 | LOGAN -- Christine A. Forman, 29, Wellsville, appeared Tuesday before 1st District Court Judge Ben Hadfield to set a date for a preliminary hearing, as a result of violating probation on her 2004 conviction for forgery and theft. The preliminary hearing was set for April 1.

Forman was arrested Jan. 28 on suspicion of retail theft. She was initially arrested in 2003 for forgery and theft, and in February 2004 pleaded guilty to three counts of forgery and three counts of theft by deception. An agreement made at the time of her plea required Forman to pay restitution of $6,419 plus interest, to serve time in jail and be on probation instead of going to prison.

Her probation had many conditions, which included violating no laws. If she is found guilty of retail theft, there will be a post-sentencing on the charges from 2003. This could result in a prison sentence, jail sentence and larger fine.
