Today's word on journalism

More from the Do-Gooder File:

"For much of his career, he could outthink, out-hustle, out-report, outeat, outdrink and outwork any other journalist in the country. But if his excesses were occasionally unbridled, they were driven by his passion to get a good story and root out the bad guys. ... He could get excited about an investigation of public corruption or a bizarre animal story. We once spent weeks following a story about a dog on 'death row' that Bob believed was 'innocent.'"

Box Elder teacher is back in his classroom

By Amy Macavinta

March 27, 2008 | BRIGHAM CITY -- "Mr. B." is back in the classroom with his students this week, but there is still no additional information on just what prompted the Box Elder School District to place the popular teacher on administrative leave.

Superintendent Martell Menlove read a brief statement last week at the beginning of a school board meeting. In it, he said the school district and pottery teacher Lee Burningham had reached a mutual agreement for Burningham's return to the classroom on March 25, with plans to have all issues resolved by then.

"No additional comment will be made," said Menlove.

The school district, and specifically Menlove, received a great deal of criticism after placing Burningham on paid administrative leave two weeks ago.

Initially, the district said it was because Burningham had violated district policy and exposed his students to asbestos. Later, Menlove said "there is more to this."

Additional details have never been revealed.
