Today's word on journalism

More from the Do-Gooder File:

"For much of his career, he could outthink, out-hustle, out-report, outeat, outdrink and outwork any other journalist in the country. But if his excesses were occasionally unbridled, they were driven by his passion to get a good story and root out the bad guys. ... He could get excited about an investigation of public corruption or a bizarre animal story. We once spent weeks following a story about a dog on 'death row' that Bob believed was 'innocent.'"

Nibley sets public hearing Thursday for solutions to city's growth challenges

By Ashley Zarate

March 31, 2008 | NIBLEY -- The city of Nibley will have a public hearing Thursday to discuss the growth of the youth in the city and possible solutions involving sports.

Nibley is running out of park space for the children to play on city sports teams. Recreation director Casey Judd said he has a lot of new ideas and ways they can accommodate all of the new families and children.

Judd said, "We have more kids than parks to accommodate their sports teams. That is my number one issue."

Nibley is working to build parks and sports areas, but lack of resources has slowed the process. Nibley's city website announced that the City Council is considering bonding $1 million to give them a head start on building the parks. These improvements and bonds will increase taxes.

Leann Winter, a Nibley resident, said she knows the parks are a necessity, but she wasn't expecting a growth spurt of young families like she has recently seen.

"I have lived here for years and never thought Nibley would grow like this. It has always been an older community until recently," Winter said.

The public hearing will take place at the Nibley city offices at 7:30 p.m. The council urges residents to attend and make a difference in the community.
