Today's word on journalism

More from the Do-Gooder File:

"For much of his career, he could outthink, out-hustle, out-report, outeat, outdrink and outwork any other journalist in the country. But if his excesses were occasionally unbridled, they were driven by his passion to get a good story and root out the bad guys. ... He could get excited about an investigation of public corruption or a bizarre animal story. We once spent weeks following a story about a dog on 'death row' that Bob believed was 'innocent.'"

North Logan considers business development proposal

By Bethany Crane

March 31, 2008 | NORTH LOGAN -- A proposal was made recently by Craig Bott, CEO of Grow Utah Ventures, to encourage young businesses and entrepreneurs to grow specifically in Cache Valley.

The number of businesses leaving Cache Valley instead of being given room to grow has been going on at an alarming rate, he said, and this program would help keep businesses here. The ultimate goal is to expand entrepreneurial development across Utah.

The specific program for Cache Valley is called SEED Cache Valley. When concerned about development in cities the allowance for entrepreneurs to create their own businesses is "an element that is often overlooked." said Bott.

This program would be a facilitating device to help young businesses grown and encourage others to begin their own businesses. The retention aspect of the businesses would be the main focus. Some solutions that would be provided are grants, direction for each region, networking and assistance, funding, and encouraging the community as a whole.

Stan Albrecht, president of Utah State University, is one such supporter of this program. A conference will be held at USU on April 8th to further discuss the proposal. The hope is to also create committees that would individually address the needs of businesses and provide support and funding to promote Cache Valley specifically.
