Cache
County sponsors youth safety council idea
By Leah Lopshire
March 31, 2008 | Cache County will be raising the level
of safety awareness come the end of this school year,
by starting a youth safety council. There will be safety
counsels for both the north and the south.
Community Service Coordinator Erin Griffith said,
"We have asked each city council with a youth council
to send a representative to come."
If a city does not have a youth council Griffith said
they will call and "ask the school resource officer
to send a student" from those towns. "We are always
striving to make things better for the Cache County
community," Griffith said.
The idea to start the council came from Lieutenant
Ted Jensen wanting to be able to hear the ideas and
problems from the younger generation in Cache County.
Students will be able to take their issues to the
council member, and the representatives in turn will
take those issues to the council.
The target date to start the council will be at the
end of April, or at the latest May 30, before school
lets out for the summer. The council's northern and
southern divisions will tentatively meet quarterly at
the high school after school is out.
Millville's Mayor Michael Johnson said, "sounds like
a good plan," when representatives came to petition
the help of the city council for a youth representative
for Millville, "it's a good way to get in touch with
the kids and see their concerns."
At this time there are not yet specific adult leaders.
