Catholics enjoying new building
in North Logan
By Emily Redfield
March 28, 2007 | NORTH LOGAN -- The Catholic Church
finished its new parish, St. Thomas Aquinas, last July,
and it is expected to serve as a place of worship for
many families throughout Cache Valley.
Father Clarence Sandoval, parish priest, said this
new building will serve more than 1,000 families in
Cache Valley. The Newman Center on 800 East Street in
Logan will now serve primarily as a place for USU students
to worship.
"This new building better provides parking and much
more space for these families," said Sandoval.
This building comfortably fits 750 people for worship,
office space and classroom purposes, he said. Religious
classes are offered there throughout the week. Mass
is also offered on Saturdays and Sundays in both Spanish
and English in this building, he said.
The Newman Center does not offer enough parking and
amenities for the handicapped and the elderly, as the
new building does, he said. The new building also offers
a lot more space inside and also encourages new activities,
he said.
"This new building is great because it offers a more
comfortable environment to worship in," said Sandoval.
The community has welcomed St. Thomas Aquinas. The
people of North Logan have offered good feedback and
appreciate the architecture of the building, he said.
"Everyone was amazed by the stone walls and the cedar
wood roof," he said.
This church has long-term plans to serve as a place
of worship for the community.
"As long as there is a Catholic community in Cache
Valley, we will be around for generations to come. We
are a family and encourage you to get involved with
our family," said Sandoval.
Mass is offered at 5 p.m. and 7 p.m. Saturdays, as
well as 10 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. Sundays at St. Thomas
Aquinas. It is also offered at noon every day during
the week at The Newman Center.
