Today's word on journalism

On Objectivity:

"I still insist that 'objective journalism' is a contradiction in terms. But I want to draw a very hard line between the inevitable reality of 'subjective journalism' and the idea that any honestly subjective journalist might feel free to estimate a crowd at a rally for some candidates the journalist happens to like personally at 2,000 instead of 612 -- or to imply that a candidate the journalist views with gross contempt, personally, is a less effective campaigner than he actually is."

North Logan P&Z grants permit for day care center

By Bria Jones

October 15, 2007 | NORTH LOGAN -- Planning and Zoning approved a conditional use permit Thursday night for a North Logan resident running a child care center out of her home.

The permit will allow Julie Backlund, who runs a day care at her home at 2764 N. 920 East, to care for more than six children at one time, with the condition that she must have her home inspected and approved by the city fire department and maintain her state child care licensing.

A day care provider that cares for more than six children at a time is required to go before the Planning and Zoning Commission, so the commission can review the application and suggest any conditions that they feel are necessary, City Planning Director Cordell Batt said.

Beyond this order of business for the meeting, the commission held a work session where they discussed the map of the general plan for North Logan and the different zoning within the city.
