Millville council unanimously approves everything on agenda

By Jake Ipson

October 6, 2008 | MILLVILLE -- The City Council met in a rather uncontroversial meeting as all the action items on the agenda were approved unanimously.

Matt Anderson was approved for a business license for Anderson's Customs and Fabrications at 211 S. 300 East. The company is selling paintless dent prepare tools now.

The council decided to accept the resolution Majestic Heights subdivision contingent upon the street lights being put up and working as well as the street signs and monuments being put up. It was later reported in the meeting that all those contingencies were done.

The cooperation agreement between UDOT and municipalities regarding the traffic flow along SR-165 was agreed upon. Mayor Mike Johnson said, this "gives guidance to what we want." The council members agreed that this will limit or restrict access along the corridor.

The next item was to transfer accounting and budgets responsibilities for the Millville-Nibley first responders to Nibley city. This was just to readjust the accounting because of the size difference between Millville and Nibley.

The one agenda item that did not get resolved was the consideration for a resolution requiring a deposit for building within Millville City. They are looking to make this a refundable deposit upon completion of the landscaping of your residency and the inspection of no damage to the city streets or gutters. They talked about whether that would include all building request or maybe a lower cost for everything under 120 ft. right now the idea thrown out there is $2000 for building of a residential structure and $500 for other types of add on kind of projects that would require a building clearance. The council decided to think about it and decide at the next meeting.

The council came to an agreement to have West Host to create and design the city website. Councilman Jared Taylor spent a couple months researching this out and it came down to two finalists. The council felt they would get more for their money through West Host.

In the discussion portion of the meeting they discussed their frustration with the grass in the city park; they feel like they are not getting what they paid for and ideas to try and fix the situation.

Planner Harry Meadows brought forth the idea to amend the free standing sign amendment for Millville. The idea that he had would allow members of both the city council and planning and zoning committee to look and decide whether a sign would be appropriate or not based on size and location.

Millville is also looking at ideas to get the citizens involved and their opinions on city agendas so they are looking to add a survey section to the online website. The office hours have changed starting Nov. 1 on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 10 a.m. to noon. The next city council meeting has been cancelled due to UEA weekend.
