Utah State group volunteers to help North Logan with safety audits

By Melissa Salcedo

October 6, 2008 | NORTH LOGAN -- The North Logan City Planning Commission did not discuss the plans for a subdivision of property as was on their agenda, but instead heard plans that a transportation program has that will affect Cache Valley.

Kevin Hislop, a professor at Utah State University, spoke briefly about the Utah Local Technical Assistance Program and its plans for the valley. The organization, which is funded by the Utah Department of Transit, is a university outreach program whose purpose is to provide a technological transfer to towns and cities in the valley that may not have the expertise that they may be looking for.

The program plans on performing traffic counts and safety audits all over the valley. The safety audits will primarily focus on high crash locations to look at them to see what can be done to make those locations safer.

Hislop concluded that the program will not be designing the facilities for transportation but will offer suggestions and guidance.
