Pop Evil breaks out in SLC

October 6, 2008 | Catchy name. Classic look. Good music. Who knew?

The band Pop Evil opened up for Tesla on Wednesday night at The Depot club in SLC, in support of the band's new album Lipstick on the Mirror. Although a sparse few people in the packed club had heard the band's just-released single Hero, no one really knew what to expect when the band was introduced.

The band immediately started wowing the crowd with solid metal riffs. Guitarists Dave Grahs and Tony Greve delivered a solid, straightforward performance in blending along with blistering solos, delivering a great 1-2 tandem in really driving the music.

Lead singer Leigh Kakaty carried a commanding stage presence, and carried kept the crowd involved and into the set during his well animated and emotional actions, while coming through the mike sounding like John Bush in his prime.

By the end of the set, the audience was well into the band, as was I -- impressed enough to pick up Pop Evil's latest CD, and continue to enjoy it after the show. Pop Evil may be on the verge of something big. . . .

Check the band out for yourself at www.popevil.com, or on their Myspace page.
