River Heights slows traffic speed on Clover Ridge

By Diane Denning

October 16, 2008 | RIVER HEIGHTS -- The City Council unanimously agreed Tuesday to reduce the speed limit from 25 to 15 mph on Clover Ridge.

The city will be placing a 15 mph sign at the entrance of the subdivision and well as “children at play” signs at various locations along the road. Public Works Supervisor Kent Parker said he has the new signs ready to put up.

Alternative ways to lower the speed of drivers on residential roads was mentioned by Councilwoman Kathryn Hadfield. She attended a conference that suggested painting white parking lines on both sides of the road.

“The parking lines narrowed the road and psychologically lowered the speed of drivers,” Hadfield said.

The council liked this idea and may consider it for other roads around town with speeding issues. In other business, Hadfield mentioned implementing a wish list for the city. The list would include items the city wants or needs but doesn’t have money for in their budget.

“It doesn’t hurt to know what we need, and be aware,” Hadfield said.

If there was a list in place the council would know what to apply for if grants became available. Some items they discussed being on their wish list were electronic water meters and a generator for the water towers.
