September 12,2008 | The Logan City Police Department
reacted quickly to a call it received Friday morning
about a possible bomb at the Logan Post Office, 75 W.
200 North St.
"We received a call about 6:15 this morning from the
post office janitor saying there was a suspicious package
sitting on one of the counters in the lobby," Capt.
Eric Collins said.
The box didn't have a mailing label or proper postage,
which caused the janitor to question the contents of
the box.
Collins said, "To be safe we called in the bomb squad."
Along with the bomb squad there were six to eight
officers on the scene with the Logan City Fire Department
standing by. The post office was evacuated and traffic
around 200 North was blocked off to ensure safety.
Collins said they sent a mobile robot into the building
to retrieve the package. The robot is installed with
a video system and arms to pick items up. A member of
the Logan Fire Department was assisting the robot. The
robot entered the post office, picked up the package
and brought it to the officers waiting outside. The
package was then shot with water through a high powered
hose. The water tore the package apart so the officers
could inspect what was inside the cardboard box. The
officers examined the contents of the box.
"The box contained scrapbook supplies," Collins said.
"No explosives."
